While we were at the Rencontres Nationales du Transport Public, we announced that we had signed a contract with the urban community of Greater Reims to modernise its transport network and make it interoperable with those of the Grand Est region.
One of the largest inter-municipal authorities in France, with 143 communes and 300,000 inhabitants, Greater Reims is committed to developing a new offer combining different modes of mobility, both urban and suburban, and innovative services to meet its territorial, social and environmental development objectives.
As a signatory of the Grand Est Region’s Intermodality and User Services Charter (RGE Charter), the urban community of Reims, together with its Project Management Agency (Nextendis) and the operator Transdev, called on us via the Public Transport Purchasing Office (CATP) to modernise the network and ensure its interoperability with the other networks in the region. This will enable passengers to travel easily throughout the region.
We will be rolling out our digital platform in the urban community from the last quarter of 2024, bringing our innovations in ticketing, electronic payment and quality of service.
Our teams are responsible for replacing the current system, which was installed 12 years ago, with our SaaS platform, coupled with the implementation of open payment. This technological combo will enable users to pay for and validate their tickets in a variety of ways, and for the first time on the Greater Reims network using their bank card.
The Greater Reims network is a major new network equipped with digital solutions developed by Matawan, with 190 vehicles equipped – including 18 trams and 24 high service level buses – and more than 510 on-board validators.
We will also provide the interfaces needed to combine the different modes of transport available within the urban community of Reims. This is the case, for example, with the P+R (Park-and-Ride) interface, which encourages people to park their vehicles in a Park-and-Ride car park to access the public transport network and easily reach the city centre.
Following the same logic, we will also make it possible to validate the M-Ticket introduced by the Region by interoperating the Greater Reims transport network with the various networks of the Grand Est region. This smartphone ticket will be issued by the regional platform in the form of a QR code that can be read and validated by the Matawan validators on the Greater Reims network.
In this way, we are supporting Greater Reims in fulfilling our commitments in terms of intermodality and user services. Our common objective is to simplify everyday travel.
